Project Spotlight: Yorkshire Way Master Bed and Bath

When Carrie and Derick Kauffman returned from their anniversary trip to Italy, they told me they had stayed in this fabulous bed and breakfast, and they wanted to bring the feel of the stone walls into their bedroom.

At the same time, I have worked with the Kauffmans for years, and I know that they love clean, simple design – nothing fussy or musty.   So the challenge for the master suite renovation was to combine the two looks into something harmonious.   The proposal:  recreate the look of the stone wall through a convincing wallpaper, and pair it with a tufted headboard, black walnut furniture, and a sliding barn door for a look of rustic luxury.

Our original moodboard proposal looked like this:

Once we got into the nitty gritty, some of the elements changed, but we are very happy where we ended up.   Here’s the final reveal:

We achieved impact without busyness by limiting the stone wall look to just the headboard wall.   Fieldstone wallcovering is by York Wallcoverings:

The rest of the walls are painted Benjamin Moore “Collingwood.”   Dublin King Bed in color “Bone” by Bassett.

Custom black walnut nightstands and media stand were custom made by Salvage Works Design and custom window treatments by Urban Loft Window Treatments. Bedroom floor is TVA Oak in “Sliver Mist.

In addition to the master bedroom, a master bathroom was added, in calming whites and grays.

Herringbone tile floor is Le Dolimiti in “white” by Artistic Tile. Wallpaper is Damask Stripe in “Pelican” by Wallquest. Sconces are the Tubo Slim LED Wall sconce by Sonneman.

We tricked out the Bertch vanity cabinet with power and heatproof storage that allows Carrie to tuck that curling iron away, even when still hot.

A clever idea, you say?   Well, clever storage ideas are in abundance in this home, and that should be no surprise given that Carrie Kauffman is the organizational wiz behind Carrie’s Essential Services and the popular facebook forum Getting Organized on the Main Line.   Stay tuned for part two of this renovation where we’ll feature the Kauffman’s awesome closet and mudroom – organized from top to bottom, as you would expect!

Sneak a peek of the rest of the renovations over on the Yorkshire Way portfolio page but stay tuned for part 2 where we will walk through the mudroom and closet interior design projects!
