About This Project

HARROGATE | AMBLER, PA

One thing we always say here at down2earth interior design is that our job is to be an interpreter of the clients’ vision. We do not have a signature look that we aim to impose on our customers. Rather, we want each interior to be a reflection of the homeowner and we believe that as a result, each project will naturally have a unique look and feel. And while this is quite true, many of our kitchen clients lately have been drawn to generally similar finishes involving white shaker cabinets with a navy island and Carrara-look quartz countertops.

So what fun it was to work on this first floor renovation in Ambler, PA, where the palette of materials was so refreshingly different. In this project, the homeowner was drawn towards the rustic and eclectic. Since the interior of the home they purchased had very little character of its own, our job here at down2earth interior design was to infuse it with a look that was lived-in and a little funky. From the antique glaze on the kitchen cabinets, to the leathered texture of the granite countertops, to the mixed metals and the industrial light fixtures, the kitchen is now overflowing with character. We especially love the custom-designed surround for the fume hood and how the sleekness of the stainless steel on that hood is juxtaposed with the worn-away look of the tile backsplash.

The rustic feel continues in other areas of the home, with our redesign of the fireplace surround which uses white ledgestone and a wood beam mantle, while the bar features a live edge teak counter, soft gold metal mesh in the upper cabinets, and a rubbed-away look to the sage colored cabinets. These touches, along with the customized mudroom storage and the homeowner’s unique collection of art and rock and roll memorabilia, make the house truly tailored for them.

The real fun of this project was the massive reorganization of the space plan for the entire first floor, and you can learn more about that process on our blog or in the before and after section of our portfolio.
